Some cameras can take a photo or series of photos when they detect movement, you can define where in the field of vision or the threshold for movement, they will then email you the image when they are triggered (a lot like a wildlife camera). This may work in a crappy wifi scenario, as most campgrounds networks may be slow and difficult to use, but if you do not need the email the second it happens and can wait for a few minutes for it to go out you will still get it eventually.
Ideally I'd want live video/audio of my dogs in their crates and enough resolution to read a digital thermometer. Push notifications would be nice. HOWEVER, I could get by with a snapshot, on my request, and enough resolution to read the temperature. Interestingly enough I think I've achieved that for free using my laptop as a camera and retrieving snapshots with my phone and 3G, though I'd have to test it for a while before I relied on it. But I think I can do better, a lot better.
