wildtoad: both as I understood from reading a post here in this forum that if you just get wifi then you miss out on GPSs. Or at least that is what I understood. When we travel, we are usually not close to hotspots (wifi type) so I want it to function like the iPhone.
This is what I want to accomplish:
1. move jpg images (shooting RAW + jpg from dSLR) and see detail especially for landscape. Also, for concerts so I can show and tell and sell. No USB port so how? I use compact flash cards although with D800 it uses SD also so it can be used for, among other things, a place for jpgs and RAW would be written to CF cards so I could use it with some sort of card reader? I don't want so many peripherals and would rather do it wirelessly
2. copy files (pdfs, Word docs, and images) from laptop to iPad mini for reference so I don't have to bring out the Mac. I understand it does not have a USB port so that will be done via iCloud and Dropbox? I haven't moved any files between MacBook and iPhone except for synching apps and whatever else goes along for the ride. Something I will ask Apple about or research on line, unless someone here has a mini-lesson
3. download apps, maps, eBooks, etc. for reference for planning and on the fly destination decisions. Do you download apps, eBooks on the laptop then synch or iPad mini or both (as in case of apps larger than 50mb that are too large for iPhone5)?
4. larger than iPhone therefore easier to read and not so much scrolling and zooming. I can share the info with DH and we can look at possibilities together (stopped at a pullout, of course). He sometimes doesn't understand my directions so if I show him the map then I won't get blamed if we get lost.
5. Use as GPS. We also have a trail GPS so we will have things covered (unless in a cave or thick woods)
6. I read where you can migrate iPhone apps to the iPad Mini. Is it better to use apps especially for iPads to take advantage of higher resolution and whatever else?
7. Is there an earphone jack for music? Our old mp3 player has a dead battery and I didn't want to shell out more $$$ for an iPod. I may though go for the classic as it holds 160gb! We could travel for months without hearing the same song twice.
8. any other comments, uses, etc.?
Thank-you
