Ok, guys, I've told Santa I want an iPad mini 2 for Christmas. Best Buy has a 16gb for $249 & 32gb for $299...Is it really best to get the 32 for $50 more?I just chek email, surf web, take some pics, (have some music on it) etc with my iPod now and only have 8gb on it...but memory is almost full.I'm thinking the 32 is the better buy and would give me plenty of storage???Update --12/19/14 - Was looking online again today and found one with 32 GB @ Target!! Yippee!!! Bought the only one the had & clerk said I was lucky as it was one left over from Black Friday. Found the same price online as Best Buy had them advertised & Target orice matched their own website! So Merry Christmas to me!! (Took the 16GB back to Best Buy.)

You never ever have to much memory.... ever.I started with an iPad 32gb and soon wished for more. I now have one with 128gb.Soon as you start importing your own material like videos, books, maps you will fill up quick. Maybe not now but long before the iPad has to be replaced you will be wishing for more. Some great apps can run 1gb all by themselves.

My mini from 2-yrs ago has 9.4gb used and 17.9gb available. Periodically, I go through and delete apps that DH puts on his and it downloaded on mine. I'm using it right now as a HotSpot because our mifi device keeps rebooting, even with an outside Wilson antenna.

I do not care how many GB it has of memory.. YOU NEED MORE MEMORY.. because one of Murphy's laws says, roughly translated for this post:The necessary stored files will expand to fill all available memory. (The accumulated junk will expand to fill all available storage space).

We use our ipads and every so often send pics to our computer to keep them safe and to keep the storage size down. It's kind of like additional storage at home. If I make more storage spaces, my wife will use them.

Yes for $50 go for the larger unit. You may never really need it, but running short on memory can cause apps to act funny, can cause trouble when updating software. SO if it's not a money issue, get the bigger one.

Dunno exactly what I can and can't do. I move the SD off the camera in the helicopter straight into the iPad in the field, and have moved MP3 too. after that I haven't played much with it.

Although they are an Android site, their pick for the best tablet is the iPad Air 2.

...the iPad has been the gold standard in tablets since it was unveiled, and that hasn't changed.

No you don't.. I sync pix, contacts, instant messages and all the media with that, and even downloaded apps via iCloud. Its so seamless that I'm getting delinquent on syncing through iTunes. The ONLY thing I HAVE to go back to the Mac for is my encrypted password data backup. After that all i need to do is be in the LAN of iTunes and it will sync via WiFi in the background (guess i should turn that back on).

BTW- iPad, iPhone, etc. can easily be downloaded to and from an SD card with their Lightening to SD adapter.

Yeah, are sure about that? There's more to the cloud than data storage, not to mention that "cloud" isn't an Apple centric term.

Well, Apple made it popular calling it the Icloud, I guess. I just don't like
the fact that I have to sync everything through itunes when I use the ipod or ipad,both of which I own. I have a chromebook also but don't use their cloud either. At least the chromebook has three usb ports and an sd card slot along with an hdmi port.

This debate is almost as fun as gas vs. diesel.
The cloud is great but it is not a total substitute for an SD card.
Why not have both?
Android lets you have both! I can use cloud storage or I can store things on my 128GB internal SD card.
Privacy does not =encryption.
For as innovative as Apple is not having a simple USB connection or SD card is a step backwards.

To the OP get as much storage as you can afford. Keep in mind cloud storage is an industry.
There are quite a few operations that will gladly charge you to store your data on their servers.
A SD card or external drive will store all your data with no annual/monthly fees.
I see cloud storage as a off site data storage option, however I don't see it as essential for day to day file transfer. But then again I prefer to think for myself when possible and leave all my options open vs. letting an outside party decide what my options should be.
