A Few Questions on Ipad Mini

Hello, all. In a few days I plan on purchasing the Ipad mini tablet and have a couple of questions perhaps you can help me with:

1. I believe Ipad 2 is the latest model but I see no designation online stating that the mini is Ipad 2. Does that only apply to the 10" model?

2. I've read portions of the book "Ipad for Dummies" and didn't see anything related to security. Does the Ipad Mini include a firewall and/or some sort of malware protection? If not, can an anti-malwsare program be installed?

3. If I desire to use a different browser than the one installed (I believe it's Safari) can I download and install the Chrome browser?

    LOL! You call me "uninformed", then you go on to make the same case I did, just a lot wordier! :-/

    I am certainly not a computer or software expert but I had the occasion to talk to an Apple expert(15 years working for them) and he said that yes malware can infect an apple product and he has on purpose done it but it will die and not be able to spread in the computer software because of how it has been written. From my own experience I have had a Mac for about 6 years and I have never had a problem with any virus or malware. A real bonus because as soon as you install a anti virus software it slows down the computer.

    I love my IPad Mini, it's my favorite Apple product. And yes to the Chrome, that's what I use.

    Yah, but the person wants to jailbreak his device, does that so intentionally. Nobody insists on installing malwares intentionally.
    Apple also checks its appstore vigorously.

    No.
    But if you ever buy the non-Retina, don't peek at one with Retina - you might bang your head against a wall, unless you are a very non finicky person.

    Retina is a better resolution screen .. More detail and easier to read are the benifits there are also a better processor and other advantages ... Speed etc that for me would make it worth the 100 but you may think different. If your near a store try before you buy
    Updates are automatically offered as soon as they come out , you can refuse them but no real reason to

    Thanks, friends. You've answered my questions well. One more: I understand that an updated operating system can be installed if available. Correct?

    EDIT: Is the Ipad mini w/retina display worth $100 more? I'm not even sure what "retina display" is.

    DW has the original iPad mini and loves it . The iPad mini retina is the current version
    The nice thing is the iPads are secure at least as of now you don't need or want any malware prevention junk cluttering it up. Welcome to the Apple world ;-)
    Chrome is a free app .. But as others have said Safari is integrated and works very well and fast she tried chrome but didn't like it even though she uses chrome on her MacBook Pro I believe.

    The IPAD Air is the latest full sized IPad. The IPad Mini with Retina display is the latest mini.

    You don't need all those malware/antivirus products that are so prevalent on windows devices.

    The built in browser (Safari) is actually quite good.

    You should Go Here to compare current models.

    I just got a mini for Christmas and it is the older version. Works fine for me.
