iPhone 6 to be built by robots !

For the initial rollout, Foxconn is said to be planning an installation of 10,000 robots to replace human workers, possibly including those who make Apple's popular iPhone product range. Each Foxbot can complete an average of 30,000 devices per year, meaning a release of 10,000 would theoretically yield 300 million iPhones if completely tasked to that production line.

I wonder if robots will bring the price down.
  • They will cause an increase in unemployment in China. That country will now experience what the US has gone through.
  • Fat chance of price coming down. I currently have an IPhone 5C and I thought my BlackBerry (previous device) was troublesome.....I kind of miss it now.

Robots or 12 year old kids building my iPhone. Which would I choose?

I'll go with the child labor. Keep them busy. Idle hands are the devils workshop.

  • Guess with robots they could start building them in the good ole USA again. No insurance, no vacations,no sick leave and no whining and sniveling.
  • I suspect that every component in all of our phones are already built by robots. The circuit boards and all of these types of electronics are done by robot and have been for years. If they are just planning to use a robot to assemble the various components it would be a no-brainer.
  • This is the type of work robotic assembly is best at performing, and already used in most other electronic device assembly. Will mean bigger profits, but doubt any savings will be passed on to the consumer.

Wish robotic assembly was used in building RVs.
