I do NOT have a smartphone. It is an old flip phone.I want to listen to MP3 audiobooks. I have a Sandisk Sansa Clip+ that has died. I do not need the expansion storage of the + since I only load 1 or 2 books at a time.I looked on eBay and it appears that I can get a ipod to replace my Clip at a cheaper price, but there are so many different modeI want to RockBox the MP3 player which limites me to a 1 to 4 generation Ipod.Any suggestions?

If you really like the Clip, buy another one. I mean they are $30 or less. If you go with the Apple products, you will probably have to install the morass that is Itunes. For total disclosure I pretty much hate all thing Apple though.If you're going to just listen to books, I wouldn't think you'd need Rockbox.I have two Sansa Clips and love them. Just about wore the paint off the Stop/Start button. :) I too just use them to listen to books.

Mine always restarts at the point I stopped it. Yours won't do that? I can stop mine, load new material, recharge it, and check out the new stuff I loaded, and it will still restart at the last point I stopped in the story.

The Clip is dead simple, way smaller than a phone, and will last days on a single charge. Two clicks and you're listening. Sometimes KISS is the best way to go. And you can add an SD card to a Clip and have 16-32 gig of capacity. Best of all worlds.

Glad you found what you need. My suggestion would have been to find an older Samsung Android phone that you can get cheap or free (no need to use it as a phone). Put a big SD card in it. Download Poweramp and you're good to go. It will cost you about the same as Clip+ and have far more capacity.

I agree with the comments about itunes. Using it to manage an audio library of 1000s of songs is a mess. They even dropped app management from the latest release.

However, out ipod touch IV has performed like a champ for years. Only issue is that apple doesn't update ios past version 6 and most new apps require later versions so we can't use them.

Won't get into a discussion here but this old iTunes argument is tired and old. I've had an iPad and iPod for years and never use iTunes. I have no problems moving files back and forth. There are many apps for this now.
My latest and greatest is this. You can get them on sale at Best Buy

Exactly, just because you get a smart phone doesn't mean you need to get a cell plan to go with it. It essentially works as a small tablet with all the other features fully functional.

A used one or older model can be bought pretty cheap...or as mentioned, someone might be getting rid of their old one.
