I have read that the fuze+ touch screen is VERY sensitive to accidental touching by a part of your clothing. - quartzsterExplorerSansa Fuze+ could be another option and is able to be rockboxed...look on Amazon
- ReadyToGoExplorerI listen to audio books on an older Sandisk clip sport and that of course won't work for you.
But I suggest you look at an Amazon fire 7 for $60. 8 GB and at least 8 hrs battery. For $80 you can get 16 GB. You can put at least 4 audio books on it if not more. Bookmarks, notes, whatever you need. Switch from one book to another and back. It is bigger than a sandisk play but it has many more features. I don't know how you use your Sandisk, but I use mine clipped to my shirt when walking and onto the car radio when driving. The Fire would work just fine for those things. Also I am sure you could attach it to a belt fairly easy. - quartzsterExplorer

I listen to audio-books. My Sandisk Clip + (which I love) is showing signs that the battery is going bad. It will not hold a charge. Since the Clip+ is no longer manufactured, the price for a replacement is $$$$.
I am looking for a low cost replacement that I can Rockbox. I like Rockbox because of the ability to create a number of bookmarks.
Any suggestion?
I do exactly the same as you, if you search well you can still find what you want...if not...don't know how handy you are
battery replacement - shastagaryExplorerone other option is a place that repairs cell phones could replace the battery in your player if is in nice shape yet. butt about 1/2 the coast of a new one i think. battery is only about $16.00 its labor that adds up though. there are youtube videos about battery replacement does not look fun though.

I do not have a smart phone, only a flip phone -- does anyone (other than me) use a phone for a phone any more . . . :S - wa8yxmExplorer IIII use my smartphone. All the music is on an SD Card so if the phone dies it moves to the new one seamlessly.
