Is Directv stopping SD and what to do?

My friend and I were out with our MH's this . past week The camper in the next site told us that Directv was ending their SD service next month. My buddy with Direcdtv has an older 2004 Southwind with the older style crankup dish with the older style SD receiver and the original analog TV. The system works fine for him, but if the news is true, He's going to have to invest in new equipment. He tried calling Directv and couldn't get thru to anyone with information. Has anyone heard about them ending SD and any suggestions what to do? He's not going to spend $1,200 on a dish.

    Very large discussion regarding this topic on another Forum(IRV2)….but like you and your friend, I was concerned also. The jest from the other Forum is this...yes you will have to upgrade your receiver BUT Direct TV will still be broadcasting on the 101 Sat but only in HD. For most that would indicate only an upgrade in the actual receiver...that's Good compared to all the stories that have been floated.

    I called Direct TV and checked on my contract...if you carry there monthly maintenance extra, they will upgrade your equipment for no cost. I'm not making any changes until I'm sure of exactly whjat is taking place.
