True, but think outside the dome . . .
In motions still work when you're parked, right? . . . and if the boat automatic really could acquire DirecTV HD, then why not think of it as a heavy auto portable?
However, it's a moot point since there is no DirecTV automatic dome (or portable). - schneidExplorer"OP asked for an automatic not an in-motion. The SK-3005 is automatic and Direct TV HD. He is concerned about elevation change from water level. "

Not sure why OP can't just put a Slimline on the bank or the dock and run the cable. That's the way I see it done in most marinas. Even if the dock floats, maybe there are stationary pilings. That doesn't work, he could do a pretty long run to the bank via RG-8. - TechWriterExplorer

I have been looking for an automatic portable HD dish for Direct TV.
Sea King -- designed for boats, but the 1800-HD (28 pounds) and the 1500-HD (19 pounds) are light enough to move around.
Oops -- gotta recant this. Manufacturer emailed me and said DirecTV HD can no longer be received on their (and others) enclosed, automatic dishes. - TechWriterExplorer

- schneidExplorerTrav'lers are not "in-motion" dishes and boats are pretty much always in motion. OP is looking for an "automatic", "portable", "HD", "DirecTV" dish. Far as I know, there is no such animal affordable and commercially available.
One member went on a quest to make a Trav'ler portable. Bottom line was too heavy, too big. too awkward, and too many wires. Moveable? Yes. Mounted other than a roof? Yes. Setup might/could take as long as manual Slimline ground mount. - Did you look at the Traveler? It should work on a house boat without any problems.

I have been looking for an automatic portable HD dish for Direct TV. I find some that pick up HD for Dish network and Shaw but none for Direct TV. We like our Direct TV service at home and camp in a lot of areas where there are trees so a roof mount is out. Thanks for any help in this matter.

Not HD either which OP wants. - lfeatherExplorer

The reason we want an automatic HD is we now have a new HD tv at home and in the RV. Direct TV refused to set us up with a HD dish due to our living on a floating home. The river, during spring runoff to summer lows varies fifteen to twenty feet. Twice a hear it would have to be re aimed and would be a pain. I though an automatic would be the ticket but it needs to be portable so I can also use it at home. Oh yes, our cable company is not the best...
You have a very unusual situation. Having had both Direct and now Dish, I changed to Dish because of the easy 3 LNB's for HD versus 5 LNB's 2 being special for HD for Direct.
This is only my opinion, I would look at changing to Dish with an automatic portable that receives HD and use it in both the floating house and the RV.
