Jetpak and a LG tablet

I have a question. I recently purchased a jet pack for when there is no service so that I could use my laptop. After buying the Jetpack, I was at Costco and purchased a LG tablet (got a great deal on it, it was free after Verizon and Costco paid the rebates, leaving me only the cost of taxes and about $2). The guy who sold it to me told me that it will work like a Jetpak and have a wifi connection. I have got a bill from Verizon and no I have not called them yet. To own the LG tablet cost me $10 a month which was not mentioned to me. Is that for the capability of operating the unit like a Jetpak? Another thing is how does it work to transmit like a Jetpak? I could turn of the Jetpak if the LG tablet is like it and save me $10 a month.

  • Take it back and exchange it for a WiFi only tablet. What you have is an LTE enabled tablet that shows up as a second device on your cell phone bill. A WiFi only model would only be able to connect to your Jet pack for internet period. Essentially you now have two new lines added to your cell phone bill the Jetpack, and the Tablet. And you've likely received a subsidized device meaning you didn't pay full price for it either. Plan on purchasing the WiFi only version elsewhere for a few hundred bucks.

Nope! Ten bucks a month is the monthly line access fee. That is on top of the OPs data plan charges.

  • Wow! Sounds complicated to me. I have the Jetpak from Verizon. I have a contract for the Jet pack and pay about $50 a month. There is no extra charge for connecting it to any computer. For that price I get 5 gigibytes. I also have the ATT sierra module (same as Jetpak from Verizon) and it is the same no extra fee for connecting to any computer. Not only can the these modules from ATT & Verizon be used on any computer for connecting to the internet, in addition our smart phones can connect to either module (we have ATT smart phones) with no extra charge. When I lose ATT service on a trip I connect to the Verizon jetpack so I have the best of both services. All that said, I am assuming your tablet connects to Verizon and you don't need the jetpak. You really need to check it out so you aren't duplicating service.
  • Sounds like the salesperson deliberately misled you about WIFI and Internet access. The tablet can nteract with a wifi device, but seems to also have access directly to cell providers as a device itself. Sounds like you have two devices both doing the same thing, and costing you for that.
  • You need to read what you agreed to and signed. I believe you are committed for 2 years at $10/month for 4g access with the tablet. The tablet can be used as a hotspot the same as your phone which I guess could be referred to as a jetpack. When you are not using wifi the tablet uses data from your phones data plan. I have the same tablet and they did not really say much about the $10 access fee until I asked. I was OK with it as I like the tablet better than the phone for internet access when away from home. If you check your information on line I think you will find that there is also another cell phone number associated with your tablet.
  • The tablet is a wifi model. Meaning it will use your verizon data plan. The 10 dollars a month for two years is verizons charge to add a device to your plan. So for the jet pack and the tablet your phone plan just went up 20 dollars a month. Personally i see that free tablet as costing you 240 dollars. The only time you need a wifi tablet and a jet pack is if you wanted to use the tablet and other devices at the same time, or use the tablet while going down the road.
