Tablet, IPad, Notebook?

I purchased my first IPAD a few months ago. $750 at Costco. I love it and use a pen to key everything in. Don't miss a keyboard. (Used a laptop prior to this). Seldom use the laptop anymore. The ease of use is fantastic, battery lasts all day and night, and many neat features like the news alerts. Lots of fun and free apps.

a tablet will do everything you want to do minus the keyboard. something like the Microsoft Surface will give you a tablet and a small laptop in one device. unless something has changed the Kindle and similar e-readers are great for reading but not much else.

We bought Dell Inspiron 3147 a couple years ago. We really like it because you can use it as a laptop or flip the top all the way back and it functions as a tablet. I like having the 3 USB ports so I can still use a mouse with it as well as hooking up an external hard drive to back up files and an external DVD/CD player too. It has an 11.6 inch screen. I believe you can find more information about a current version by looking for 2 in 1's on Dell's website.

I love my iPad.

As a retired legal secretary, I was certain that the lack of a keyboard would be something I couldn't live with. As it turns out, I am perfectly capable of one- or two-fingered typing!

I also appreciate the fact that the battery lasts hours longer than the one in the laptop, and being able to take pictures and down/upload them directly is an added bonus.

The Kindle Fire is a really good e-reader. Recently picked up their cheapie for $33, a fantastic value. But their version of Android is a pain in the neck for other stuff.

For my use, similar to what you outlined, the combination of that cheap e-reader and a lower end lightweight laptop (mine's an ASUS in the $400 range) works just fine, and travels well.

iPad would be my choice unless you need to use Microsoft Office. Very few software updates, and it just works. Not perfect, but until MS can figure out a way to eliminate all the updates and viruses, I'll continue to use iPad, IPhone. As another said, a keyboard can be found.

I love my IPad air2. It travels well. My wife has some vision issues and she recently purchased an IPad Pro. Large screen and lots of settings to help with vision issues. It to has been usable everywhere we go.

There is an app for IPad that sends a copy of any book on your Kindle to your IPad and it appears in color. I don't use the laptop any longer due to IPad use.
