Kaspersky Internet Security 2013????

My son is a security network administrator for a computer support company, and hence, has been my techie for many years.

He and his company use nothing but Kaspersky, and I have it on all three of our computers, and it works great. They are timely in getting updates to us, and we have never had a problem with anything that is not supposed to be on our systems.

Been an AVG (free) user for years. Never had a problem. Pay attention installing it or you'll wind up with browser add-ons that you won't need.

Being quite thrifty, I've used Microsoft Security Essentials and the occasional scan with Malwarebytes (both free) and haven't run into problems so far.

I heard an ad on the radio about THIS DEVICE.

Has anyone heard of this "stick" or has anyone actually used it? It certainly looks like a completely different approach, although updating the "stick" via the internet seems no different than downloading updates directly to your computer. Or am I missing something?

I've also used free AV software for over 10 years and have never had a problem. However, since you're getting KAV free for a year, I think you made the right decision. After the term is over, you can always switch to a free AV package which should be more than adequate.

I used to buy my antivirus, but frankly the free stuff is more than enough for my personal computers. Also, there are different kinds of protection. For starters, Windows Defender (free) has a frequently-updated virus signature database and extremely good protection. I have been using it since it was released with no problem. Incidentally, all of the Microsoft owned laptops and desktops use this software.

Email protection is also well covered by the Microsoft product. Kaspersky has more traps and is probably better, but again, common sense (don't open enclosures unless you know they are probably safe) and a good product will do the trick. The free product scans all files after downloading and before making them accessible.

I have my own email server and it has very serious antivirus and antispam protection. Any mail to my domains is scanned before it is made available to users (SpamAssassin, Clam antivirus, maia, etc.). This is helpful since my wife's mother forwards lots of questionable email. If you use hotmail (outlook online), there is strong protection there too. I am not sure of Gmail, but I imagine it is safe too.

It really doesn't make too much sense to subsribe to a pay service unless your PC is a hacking target (unlikely). No security product is perfect. Hackers, like burglars, can get in if they want to. They look for soft, unprotected targets. Simple common sense and a free antivirus, spam, firewall should be all most of us need.

I have had it come with a couple different laptops over the past few years. Each time I removed it and replaced with a USA based software. Kaspersky is a Russian based company and there are too many GREAT Free virus softwares available on the net, Avast being my first choice. Thanks everyone for your input. Will give Kaspersky a try and see how it compares to Norton 360.

I've been using Eset myself since I finally dumped zone alarm security... Eset seems to work allot better for me and doesn't seem to be so memory resident as Norton... Since I switched my older laptops don't seem to bog down like they used too....

It's the best! No issues, been running it on three computers for three years.........The New England Patriots recommend it...It must be good!... :-)

I have been using the free stuff exclusively for some time and have no issues. I am sure there are better ones but the free stuff works
