They all go in cycles. One six-month period, one AV program is tops. Next cycle, another. The malware guys are good at finding ways around various programs.
So far, what I've been doing is running my Web browser in a virtual machine (Hyper-V is available on Windows 8, and does a decent job.) This limits what damage malicious software can do since when (not if) the VM gets nailed, all it takes is a rollback to a previous snapshot, and the problem is over.
