KVH trac vision & Direct TV

I own an 08 Bounder with a factory installed KVH trac vision R4SL. I bought this rig new and had the trac vision configured to my standard defintion Direct TV receiver. All worked well until a couple of months ago when my old receiver died. Direct TV promply sent me a new standard defintion receiver which I hooked up to a TV in my house to bring it on line and set up. I then took it to the coach and connected it to the trac vision. Now I can't get the trac vision to lock on to a satellite, it just keeps searching. After calling camping world and a couple of local RV repair shops, I can't find anyone willing to re-configure the trac vision to the new receiver(if that's what needs to be done). Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how I can get this thing to work again? any info would be appreciated.

  • New box needs to be set with check switch from 3lnb t 18in round then run again
  • Do you have a SAT SEL button next to your satellite power button? I have a LF/SF and a D12 receiver and I had to manually keep pressing the SAT SEL button until it would go solid green, then re-test the receiver to find the correct satellite. It was quite time-consuming and took me 2 hours to find the right one. I called TracVision and they told me it can take up to 40 searches...I think I did 39! :)

It quite possible that the new receiver is simply not compatible with your antenna. Many of the older antennas required that the receiver have a low speed data port and none of the new receivers have this option. You need to contact KVH and give them your exact antenna model and serial number and let them know exactly what changes you have made. They should be able to provide you with the information you need to determine if you antenna will work or if it needs a major update.

Some of the newer ones have a usb port than can be used as the low speed. Need a USB- RS232 adapter and an adapter from 9 pin to RJ22. There is a post on here I put up the diagram. I just used it this weekend...
  • I have the same KVH unit as you do. I think the KVH operates independently of the receiver. In other words , my receiver can be turned off and the' dome' will still find the satellite . Perhaps the receiver may not be compatible with your dome . My receiver model is a 722.
