LONG cable for DISH?

Hi all--want to connect from the house to an outbuilding about 300 yards away. Can this be done with cable that long or do I need an additional service?
  • And why can't I get my IPad to post the question? I had to resort to using the laptop.
  • What cable are you thinking of extending? The cable from the dish? No, won't go that far without some special electronics.

You won't need additional service, just take your receiver & TV out there and add another dish at that location.

Are you thinking of providing reception capability to your RV parked out there with a receiver already in it? That's what I did - just add a dish to the building and plug into the cable when you park.
  • People have run RG-6 300 feet, YMMV. With RG-6, there would be ~30 dB of loss @2250 MHz @300 ft. To even have a chance at 300 yards, you'd need much better cable, such as LMR-600-75 (~36 dB and ~$2/ft), or even hardline (even more $$$).
  • Did you receive my PM, @chast? I wasn't able to post because of the timeout error on the forum.
  • when I had a fairly long run, I put one of those small in-line boosters in the line and it did add some "power". at that time it was about $18 at wally world. not that long however.

I would do like Hiking Hunter says - Put up a second dish where your trailer is parked... Be sure to match up your SAT TV carrier...

No need to mess with a super long RG cable and its losses...

  • you can purchase a sat dish for 75 dollars. the SWM is 100.. done.

you will spend way more than that on hardline.

Do you just want to sent the output from a receiver to the out building or do you want to run a coax from an existing antenna to a receiver at that remote location?
  • At my cottage The dish is 250' away from the receiver.
I get a clear signal averaging 90 out of 100.
