I am used to Yahoo maps, so I use that all the time. I think it may just be sort of copied from Google maps.

Also carry a decent large map book with me. Saved me a few times when the GPS wanted to send me and my TT into odd places!

Delorme Street Atlas is about the only option for offline maps for the PC. I am using the latest version of Microsoft Streets & Trips and will continue using it for a while longer.

I'm looking for a good off line map. I often travel in remote areas without internet. Streets & Trips works well but is no longer updated. Much easier to use than Google Maps even with internet. Delorame isn't nearly as nice.

GPS units work sort of, but most I've tried don't have the detail available on a full screen laptop.

I agree, since I sell worldwide on ebay and I could see the street, house or building of all of my customers even if they are in the Czech Republic or Hong Kong including street views.

Pocket Earth, CoPilot and several others have the maps local (if you have the space) and do not need cell service or WiFi after the maps are loaded, only the GPS.

There is a way to use Google Maps when you don't have cell service. It requires you to plan ahead and store the area that you need prior to losing cell coverage. Link follows:

We haven't used it enough yet to give it a review but take a look at Pocket Earth Pro, $3. It works offline and free maps of the world. Only negative I have so far is it's POI are pretty poor.

I occasionally use Garmin's Viago for IOS. It's $2, and looks very similar to a traditional stand-alone Garmin GPS. It uses online data, but for $20 in-app purchase you can download all map data so it can be used without having to access cell data.
