It seems OP had to rattle the chains of the company boss to get some action. That seems a poor way to run a business.

As far as CC versus debit/cash, I agree, but OP wasn't really squawking about that. Besides which, passing the loss onto the credit card company doesn't sound like the right thing to do either.
