More Dish/Winegard Travler problems

I'm the one that was posting a couple weeks ago. I did stow and reset the Winegard. Once a day or so we'd get a message on the screen saying signal loss and in a few seconds it comes back. This morning no tv picture again. I checked on the menu and we are showing good signals on all 3 satellites. It's gotta be a problem with the Dish receiver right?

I've been trying to figure out who to call, Dish or Winegard

Original poster again. We are in Arizona and there is absolutely nothing to get in the way of the signal. About 9 am the signals were back. It's done this 4 or 5 times and always on s cold morning. What on earth could the cold have to do with it? Something is malfunctioning and I don't know how to tell if it's the Winegard Travler or the Dish

Someone asked if it was Hopper3. Ours says Hopper with Sling.

Im gueasing you either have a crack in the LNB, a bad LNB or a bad coax/connector.

    Ok, that's makes it easier.

Stow your Travler. Raise it again again and then do a Check Switch.

Can you then get local channels?
  • Dish and DirecTV have very different scales for their signal strength the 70's is excellent for Dish where as you would want to see 95 and up on most DirecTV transponders.
  • Wish I had looked at the forum first. There is no reason to send a PM if you are posting the questions here. Here was my response to your PM.

My initial thought would be that it is something other than the antenna. Do you have only a Hopper or a joey as well. There is a Solo Node "splitter" between the antenna and the receiver. Is that inside or outside? Have you looked at those connections? If the Solo Node is outside you need to disconnect each coax connection, put in some di-electric grease and re-connect.
If you stow the antenna and put it back up again does the problem go away and if so for how long.

that's why I specifically said "in DirecTV world"
The OP's descriptions still don't rule out interfearence
  • I noticed the OP mentioned the problem occurring more on cold mornings. That makes me think of an issue sometimes seen on longer cable runs, that of "thermal pull back" where the center conductor in the coax contracts and pulls back far enough in an 'F' connector to cause a poor or no connection. As the temperature goes back up, the wire expands and reconnects. I wouldn't think the coax runs used in a Trav'ler installation would be long enough to cause that problem, but I suppose it's possible if a connection is marginal to begin with. With a complete loss of signal, I'd start checking at the single coax from the Solo Node to the Hopper.

OP here. Last 2 mornings it's been warmer and no problems. Can anyone tell me what this solo node thing looks like?
