Mounting a Winegard Pathway X2

This is a automatic portable satellite dish. The dish sits outside. A coax cable runs from the dish to the receiver inside the TT by the TV. Nothing is mounted to the roof with screws. That would be a mistake.

Have you read the instructions? The beauty of this dish is that you can move it around and set it on the ground where you can aim without tree interference. It also automatically finds the satellites. Good luck. Keith

Q: Can I mount the Pathway X2 antenna to a vehicle?

A: No. The Pathway X2 antenna is a stationary antenna and is not intended for mounting to a vehicle.

Don't mount a portable dish. If you want to mount one get a king dome or some other permanent dish. If you do cut or put screws in your roof you would need to seal it.

The instructions state that mounting is optional and there are 4 screw holes for mounting. I don't plan to detach it from the roof and if left unsecured, I worry about it blowing off in high winds. It weighs 16 pounds, so it's unlikely it would blow off, but wouldn't want to take the chance. Being that I never plan to move it off of the roof, do you think it's still not a good idea to mount it? I don't see what damage it would do to mount it. Thoughts? Thanks for the replies BTW.

With that I suggest going to your local Dish installer for their opinion....

As stated previously the X2 is NOT meant to be roof mounted as stated here on the Wineguard website.

You all are right. Called Winegard. Not designed for roof mounting. It'd be fine if I never took it anywhere, but it's not designed for the wind while driving. Thanks to all.

I think winegard is being to narrow minded on this one.

I don't want my X2 (when I buy one) sitting out on a tri-pod.
I want to be able to set my X2 on roof or ladder rack where it is out of reach, out of way. But I also want to be able to clamp it down (or lock it to ladder rack). Even directions says it can blow over in 35mph winds, and we camp on beach a lot.

There are easy ways to anchor the tripod so it wont tip in stronger winds. Even our much larger tripod mounted triple LNB dish survived 60+ MPH winds with just two dog tie out screws anchoring it. The tripod mount gives you much more aiming flexibility.

Since you did not purchase the X2 yet have you considered putting up a permanent sat antenna on the roof instead horsing around getting a portable up and down on a ladder or roof every time you move?
