- ReadyToGoExplorerPlease don't post things in error. Yes you can run some and many XP programs in Win 8.
Right-click the program's icon and choose Properties.
When the Properties dialog box appears, click the Compatibility tab and then click the Run Compatibility Troubleshooter button.
In its robotic way, Windows 8 tries to guess what version of Windows your program needs, and then it applies the changes. If the program begins working, you're through.
If the program still has trouble, though, move to Step 3.
In the Compatibility Mode section, select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For check box and select the program's desired Windows version from the drop-down list. - crcrExplorerI'm running Microsoft Office 2003 on a Windows 7 machine, without any real issues.
- 1775ExplorerOn Win 7 you will not be able to run an XP version of Quickbooks Pro unless you have a Win 7 version (ultimate, enterprise or professional versions) with XP Mode. My wife has Win 7 Ultimate and was able to run her old version of Quickbooks Pro only on the XP mode side of the OS. It would not run on the Win 7 side. This turned out to be somewhat inconvenient and since she uses QB pro for business wound up buying a newer edition of the software that would run on Win 7.
Win 8 no longer has XP mode and will not run QB Pro's older editions. You may still be able to install a Virtual Machine on Win 8 (???) and with XP disks install XP on the virtual machine and run all XP software.
I had no problem with Photoshop on Win 7 and was able to install an older MS office that MS says will not run on Win 7 BUT ran just fine. - CaseyontheroadExplorer

Where are you finding a NEW computer with Windows 7 ? Everything I have been able to find is Windows 8, which I hate.
Dell, HP and Lenovo all sell new computers with Win 7 on their websites. The selections seem to be a bit better for small business/business side rather than home users.
To the OP: If you buy at least Win 7 Pro you have the option of downloading Win XP mode and running that for your older programs. You can read about it here:Win XP Mode It essentially runs XP in a virtual machine inside Win 7..
I only have Win 7 Home Premium here and my experience running old XP programs on that has been mixed. The programs load fine but functionality may be reduced. My solution was to pop a new hard drive into an old P4 box and install XP there. I don't need to go online for those old, old programs so lack of XP support after April, 2014 isn't an issue for me.

You can move all of those, you'll have to use original installation media.
If they're ancient versions updates will fix most bugs. - JaBobExplorerPhoto shop, Pagemaker and Quick Books Pro

So which programs are you needing to move? - lryrob9301ExplorerWhere are you finding a NEW computer with Windows 7 ? Everything I have been able to find is Windows 8, which I hate.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIISeems odd that you had trouble with MS Money 2004, I'm running MS Money 2002 on Windows 7 with no installation issues whatsoever.
- obgrahamExplorerSome can be moved. Many require a repurchase.
