MS streets and trips download vs dvd

If I buy the dvd version instead of downloading online will that save RAM and hard drive space?...in other words, will it run off the dvd or do I still have to down load to computer from the dvd??...tia
  • I've not used MS Streets and Trips, but Delorme Street Atlas, also a mapping program, will not load some of the maps if you don't want it to, thereby saving space but making the operation of the program much slower as it has to access the drive all the time.

I imagine MS Streets and Trips is similar. If you have the room, and I can't imagine that you wouldn't have a couple gig to spare, load the whole thing. It makes using the program a lot faster. That's what I would do anyway.
  • Not much runs off of a DVD these days, to slow, drive door pops open, etc.

My 2013 download was about 1.5GB so it took awhile on my DSL. So a DVD would reduce internet data usage. I have it installed, backed up on my hard drive and backed up on 2 external hard drives along with everything else.

    What's a few GB's these days? Just saw a 2TB USB3 external drive for $79.
  • Installs to hd. Only hd saving is not having the downloaded software on the hd.

Short answer: The two programs are identical. the only space you will save is the space taken up by the download file itself, and if you burn that off to CD or DVD (depending on it's size) even that won't be occupied for long.

Do make a copy of it and do not loose your key.. I am fighting to re-install it on this machine as I type.
