Multi route trip planner

I will be traveling during a time of year when the weather may be "iffy" in the areas I will be traveling through.

I would like to be able to, on the fly, reroute myself based on weather conditions (i.e. take the fast mountain pass route if it's not snowing, take the flat land route if it is).

I would like to prepare a map, either on paper or for an android device used offline, that will allow me to:
- show at least 3 routes
- record camping areas along each route
- record contact information for those camping areas

Can anyone recommend a windows program or android app that would allow me to do that?
  • Bleux,

All of that is why I finally settled in to Delorme. I can have several routes on the map, with special stops indicated and the fuel and EOD all planned.

I am working on a three week tour of PCH for next year right now.

All we have to do is hope that Garmin/Delorme keep up with SA in the future.

Between the information at the Discovery Owners and GasBuddy, we can have a good idea of how things are going to go.

    Matt
  • I'll echo the recommendation for Garmin Basecamp and use it frequently. Also, a route can be exported into .gpx format and imported into other GPS devices or other programs, such as CoPilot, the .gpx file can be converted by Route Converter into a .trp file and then copied into the appropriate directory on the device running CoPilot.
  • CoPilot app for RVs should do that. I've been using CoPilot for 2 years and just upgraded to the RV version. Very happy with it.
  • Just use Google Maps to plan the trip. If you don't like the way your trip is planned you just grab the route and pull it to the road you would rather take. I am sure you can save all of the various options if you like but since this is something that can be done on the fly a great deal of per-planning should not be necessary.
  • I just change directions and my GPS recalculates what I have done and re routes my trip to my destination by what I have just done by leaving the road I was on.
  • Basecamp by Garmin will do that, but I don't know about using it on an Android device. I usually plan out several routes and load them onto my Garmin GPS and then choose the route I'm going to use. The Nuvi I have at the present time will hold 100 routes, and old ones can be deleted to make room for new ones. Works great for me.

Basecamp is kind of a pain to use though. I plan out my trips on Delorme Street Atlas then map it out in Basecamp. A bit clunky, but works well for me.
