Need help with Kindle

Because we aren't within striking distance of a library I bought us a kindle Fire HD. Now I can't get it to log onto my internet! The only one here is Frontier and I've called them to get the password (alphanumeric 16 digits long thing) but I keep getting an 'authentication problem' message. It's the same network as my landline hook-up - do you suppose that might be the problem? Has anyone else had this happen to them?
  • Go to your landline computer and look at the ssid and password it is using. Note caps, too.

Is your Kindle seeing the ssid?

When you try to connect to WiFi, forget the previous remembered networks and manually add the new network you want to connect to. You need to be within the distance of the router for the particular network. I have every version Kindle and Kindle Fire and haven't experienced your particular problem.
I HAVE had the problem, and this answer was my solution. :)
  • May depend on the type of Kindle you have but mine required a WI-FI and any connection issue would be between that the router and your Kindle - that wouldn't be a Frontier problem.
  • First of all, have you contacted kindle support? They answer within a minute or less.
I have noticed that getting on a new connection sometime requires 2 or 3 tries before getting the connection right.
Are you getting 3 or more bars when you see the site? Further away could be a problem.
Have you tried going to a hot site and connecting? You know like McDonalds.
Is there upper case involved and are you entering it correctly? Have the CG owner key it in for you.

Do you have this button? Did not know what OS version you have.

There is no Mayday on the HD version Kindles.

Looks like you are using WEP security. This is low grade security. Some devices refuse to authenticate to WEP due to it's low security protocols. Switch to WPA security. I think the Fire HD will connect to G WiFi. We use N WiFi.
  • I think you need to have an internet connection for the "button" to work in the first place, right??

Not familiar specifically with the Fire HD.. My wife has just the 'Fire' and it needs a WiFi connection for it's internet connection..

If it has no WiFi, it's just a regular electronic book and can only access what's loaded on it directly.

I don't understand how you are trying to login to your landline account thru a WiFi device??

    More info needed I think??

    Good luck!
