New "Go" Phone---How to Change?

I now have a Samsung "Propel" and am using the ATT Go Phone system. The Propel only lasts 2 or 3 days now, without use, to lose it's charge.

I'm thinking of replacing it with one of those simple, $25 flip phones as I assume the battery is about gone. But, can I just take a little chip out of the old phone and put it into the new one so ATT will recognize it as my old number, etc? Probably not explaining it very well.

  • I ended up buying the $14.88 samsung sgh a157v at my local walmart. The old chip fit in fine and fortunately, I had saved my phone directory to the chip, so the directory loaded up into the new phone just fine. So far, I think the sound quality is a little better than the older, far more expensive phone. The reception seems just as good, maybe better here at home. Will have to see how it does in the Rio Grande Valley and Arizona. I'm thinking a confused old brain like mine does better with cheaper & simpler!
  • If it ain't a smart phone it should have a standard SIM card.
I use ATT Go Phone and just got an LG touch screen made in 2013 and the card from my old phone fit in it.
  • Be advised older phone models 2010 and earlier typically used the "miniSIM" or standard SIM cards.

All the new phones use the "microSIM" type.
    iPhones use the "nanoSIM" size.

Mini (standard) is bigger than micro and won't fit newer phones.
Just another complication of switching phones :M

Just went thru this when I switched to a new smartyphone from an older RAZr clamshell.
  • Yes you can and make sure your address book is on the card and not the phone and that will be on the new phone also.
  • I'd just trade it for the new Nokia 520 Go Phone.
    $99.00 bucks from AT&T
  • I would think a new go phone will be cheaper than a battery and yes, you can just change the sim card, but keep the new one that comes with phone..I didn't & wanted it later.

I believe all go phones have sim card that you can just put in another phone and should work with out doing anything else, But I would opt for a better battery...it will cost the same as a phone
