I am very strongly inclined to believe that this is indeed his problem, however the vary fact is you can INDEED split a Dish Network "solo LNB" antennd (300 class) to feed two receivers.. I have done it, it works, You can not split DirecTV but you can splite Dish.
Reqires a special splitter however.. Dish sells two different splitters for just this purpose.. ONE of them works. one does not, and which one depends on which receiver you have.
I do NOT recommend using existing wiring for the antenna cable. Generally it is high loss, lowest bidder, RG-59,, RG-6 works much better. but from the sounds of it the O/P removed the cable from the Winegard Switch and used it as Winegard recommends. So it **SHOULD** work, provided he has the right splitter. AND provided the Carryout is a "Dual output" dome. (Many domes are singles and will not run 2 receivers no matter what you do).
