New Winegard Carryout -- switch test failures...

So far I'm not very impressed with this company. When you call for help you are told that all operators are busy and that if you leave your number the next available operator will call you. It's been 3 hours now. For "expedited service" send them an e-mail they say but no response there either. And they're going home for the day in 15 minutes.

Test is failing every time. First it was running 50 tests (1 of 50) and now it was 38. With my other tripod dish 500 it was always 3 tests. I'm using the same receiver as before which Dish confirmed is compatible, the 522. It first says to check superdish/alternate and then says to uncheck. I've tried both ways and no luck.

Anyone else been through this?...Thanks...

  • unplugged it...changed the switches under the dome. plugged it back in. I hear it moving got a tiny bit of a red bar (like 3) on 119 then "checking for available satellites" and now it's switched to satellite 105 on the point dish screen and nothing else is happening. I changed it to 119 and still nothing..

Oh geez....no to removing theh dome. Dish assured me this receiver was compatible which is partly why I splurged and and chose it over the Tailgater. 2 coax? No. They say nothing about this in the instructions. I have only have one coax plug outside. It comes into the tv cabinet and I split it right before the receiver for the 2 satellite inputs.

I'll go change the switches inside the dome and try again. Missed that part.

    Thanks for your response!

You cannot split the 1 input and send it to two receivers. You must connect that cable direct from the Winegard to the receiver.

First, did you remove the dome and change the dip switches to 4,7,8 down? Do you have 2 separate coax cables running from the dome to the 2 inputs on your receiver? If not, fix that. Once they are set, here's some additional information.
It's unlikely (but possible) that you are going to have much success with a dual tuner box and any dome style antenna. To have any chance at all you must follow the instructions exactly and within the allotted time limit. Be sure to go to Menu>6,1,1 and set the satellite to 119 and the transponder to 11. The other settings are not important. Be sure you have the Carryout unplugged while you are making these settings. Now plug in the Carryout and wait for it to lock onto 119 with a green bar and a message that says Locked 119 below. Once locked (and the signal is not fluctuating) you need to run the Check Switch routine right away. Do NOT check the Super Dish or Alternate options (38 tests without, 50 with) and let it run. You only have 6 minutes to complete this test so do not dawdle.
Hopefully, it will return the SW64 and show 110, 119 and 129.
If you have done it all right, tried both with and without Super and Alternate you can disconnect both coax input connections and run a Check Switch with no cables connected. You will get a message that less satellites were found and you need to select save. This will wipe out all CS info and you can start a new CS routine following the instructions.
  • There is a procedure in the manual for resetting the receiver and setting it up for that Winegard dish. I don't recall what it was but I had the same problem

Read this for dish Dish Setup

You will get switch test failures. This is normal.

What do I do then? Eventually I need it to kick in. I've done four now.
