I'm in Quartzsite having trouble getting local channels on Directv.I spent a good 2 hours yesterday with both chat and phone, and they assure me everything is fine on their end. The problem may be on my end as I cannot get any signal on the 99(s) or 103(s) birds, which I understand are the spot beam satellites. I really don't know if that's true. My 'All channels' guide shows me still getting Utah (SLC) locals, which show "771- Signal loss on Satellite in 2." To reach the dish from my RV I have two coax cables joined with one barrel connector, no splitters, Slimline SWM tripod-mounted dish, 101 sat is 95%. I've refreshed the receiver and rebooted it several times with no luck. I've tried aiming the dish to get a 99(s) signal, but I can't get a peep out of it. Can't say I've ever had this problem where it wasn't DTV's fault because sometimes they don't put their best technicians on at night.

Did you do the the menu, channels, all channels?Mymguess you habe the channels the locals on turned off.

Are you using a 3LNB dish? If not, you can only get the 101 satellite. If you do have a 3LNB dish and are locked onto the 101, you need to set the skew to 109° (for Quartzite) to get the 99 and 103 satellites AND the tripod has to be absolutely plumb.

Sounds to me like your missing a sat. The guide means nothing. It only show what you successfully downloaded last time you had the correct sat.Did you give DTV a new service location (zip code?)What signal strength is on the other sats?

The numbers for 99 and 103 are too low and you haven't said what you are seeing for 101. What locals are you trying to receive there in QZ..Phoenix? What address did you supply and are you able to get all other channels other than the 4 Major Networks?

I said in my OP the 101 is 95%. I guess Phoenix, I don't know exactly what they're sending. 90 e Main street. All other channels are fine.

I just swapped out the coax to the lnb and no change. I've gotten some pretty crappy reception on the 99 and the 103 before, but always been able to get locals. This is very unusual. Once in a while DTV thinks they're giving me locals but aren't. I contacted them just a few minutes ago and they assure me they are.

And you should learn to read. Your on the wrong sats. You need to find 101 and,lock onto thst. With the correct azmith, elevation and angle you will see 99 and 103. Wjich is the three birds yiu need

I've never gotten local channels when outside my home area. If I go a couple hundred miles from Tucson I can get Tucson local channels. When I go 400 miles to San Diego I don't get anybody's local channels. My antenna is the Wingard Travler and it shows I'm getting all three sats needed for HD programming.

How do I get local San Diego channels?

When traveling outside the local spot beam area you need to contact DTV and temporairly change your service address. Then you can receive the local channels for the new service area. Of course you will need to find the channels for them.

If you are guessing Phoenix but you are not providing a Phoenix address you have found at least 1 small part of your problem. The other part of your problem is that your antenna is not properly pointed and until you deal with that issue you are pretty much dead in the water.
