No Service Address Changes on DirecTV

Just read a post on another forum where the DirecTV RV customer tried to change his service address for local channels and was told by a C/S supervisor that DirecTV no longer allows it. They were told they would have to have a separate account for the RV with DNS locals.

Since I have DISH I was not able to verify the information. Those with DirecTV have you tried to change your service address in the last couple of days and experienced this? Is DirecTV getting even more RV unfriendly?

  • I'm sitting here in Wellton, AZ and I have Directv. I get the very same channels & networks here that I get at our home in MT. Same receiver I use in MT. I don't get tv here in hd like back home because I just have a little dome on our trailer. I don't know how there could be any problem. I just change my billing address from MT to AZ and back again. I do it every year. Maybe if one took the time and tried to change the physical address to where your dish is actually located that might change things some. When your traveling around that would be kind of impractical.
  • After going back and reading the original post again I kind of understand the problem. Your home local networks may not be available as far as local news & weather but I would think they would let you subscribe to the east & west coast network feeds. You can get the same programs as at home just at different times. Look at it this way. If you miss it on the east coast feed wait 2 hrs and watch it on the west coast feed. During nfl football season I love it. Most of the time the east & west coast feeds carry different games. You do have to subscribe. The cost is minimal. At home the only tv I can get is from a satellite and with no local feed available.

You have the DNS channels since locals aren't available at home. I can apply for DNS and no longer get the locals.

We prefer the local news, however. DNS only has the national programs and there are many other local channels (1-99) that are available.
  • You just use your OTA TV antenna for true locals (only needed to find the local weather forecast) and you use DNS for everything else. I consider myself a time shifter. I don't watch live TV (other than OTA) and I really don't care if I watch Saturday Night Live on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday!
