never went the dedicated gps route, when we started traveling in 99 printed out maps and directions, then a laptop w/ a gps puck and Delorme Street Atlas, still used for planning, now a tablet running Copilot amd the phone running Waze, we also have a verizon hotspot on.

You can install free copy of Copilot, when you have wifi, and try it out.
