Modern TV's are ATSC compliant, (American Television Standards Committee) these TVs can pick up DIGITAL over the air broadcast signals And though there are still a very few analog stations out there (They can also pick up analog) they are few and far between.
Older TVs may be marked "Digital" but this is QAM,, A cable TV digital standard,m NOT ATSC.. Of course All TVs get NTSC (Never Twice Same Color... er, National Television Standards Committee) but that is the old analog standard.
A digital converter (Round about 50 or less) Radio shack among other sources) is all that's needed to fix.
