8.1 allows you to boot directly to the desktop and you never have to look at tiles if you don't want to.

Ignorance of operating systems is no reason to 'hate' them. Technically 8.1 is a faster more stable operating system with future support included.

The advantages of 8.1 over 7 are incredible - not the least of which is drastically reduced boot time. Good luck running DirectX 12 on anything less than Win 10.
