I went back and read the manual (what a concept!) and it appears they have changed things a bit since I was involved with them.
It looks like you now connect both receiver but do not turn on the 2nd receiver until the 1st receiver setup is complete. Then.....
"After completing setup on the main receiver, power on the secondary receiver. If using a new receiver, you will be guided through
the setup by the Installation Wizard; follow the on-screen steps to complete setup. If using a receiver that is currently active or has
been used previously, you will need to complete setup by doing a Check Switch test. To access the receiver menu for running a
Check Switch test, follow the steps under “Accessing the Receiver Menu"
As I recall the Dish software that allows the X2 to operate correctly must be set each time the units are powered off (or disconnected) but that's the Dish software so it's not anything Winegard has any control over.
