Pathway X2 cold weather issues?

I think you nailed my issue. I sometimes shut off the power at the pedestal and put my power cord away if we're going to be gone for a while. I had a cord stolen once, and it's not cheap to replace a 50A cord. So with the power down, that makes sense. I just thought the dish (which is chained up) would stay pointed in the right direction.

I was having problems like that at first when I tried hooking up to the 'sat in' connection on my 5th wheel. These golf ball antennas need a direct connection to the receiver box inside your RV otherwise they won't work. There cannot be any switches, splitters, etc in the line.

As an experiment, I would suggest that you run your cable line from the antenna dish through a window or try and sneak it thru a slide and then connect up directly to the receiver box. Try that for a couple weeks and see if you still have problems. If not, then the solution would be to run a new dedicated line from the 'sat in' connection on your RV all the way to the receiver box. This is a common situation with all these portables.

I would also suggest to the OP that he try this too. I cannot think of a reason that this would solve a cold weather problem, but connecting up this way would eliminate a bunch of variables that have to do with interior coach connections which may or may not be affected by cold weather.

Of course you can ignore this reply if you are already connected in this manner.

Last idea for both of you. All these portable antenna dishes get their electricity to operate through the cable connection with the receiver box (12 volts I think). Is it possible that you momentarily lose your 110v supply to the inside receiver box for any reason during cold weather, causing the system to think it's been unplugged ? If yes, then that would explain why you need to go through the reset procedure. Remember that you still have juice flowing to the antenna dish even when the receiver box is 'off' (but not unplugged from a wall socket). But if you lose 110v to the receiver box, then it's just like you're starting up from scratch the next time you turn on the box. Maybe the house circuit 'blinks' when an electrical heater on the same circuit energizes ?

I know I'm grasping at straws here. But I would look for something that changes during cold weather operation - and operation of an electrical heater might be one.

Thanks, Tim (Kinda goes against the grain to compliment a Packers' fan, but right is right. LOL) I think you may be correct. I'm just waiting for awhile to make sure it doesn't do it at all during warmer temperatures. Then I'll contact Winegard. They're only about 60 miles from us when we're back in the sticks & bricks.

I fulltime and have been using an X2 for about a year now with zero issues. I'm near Phoenix now and we did have a few nites below freezing but it had no effect on mine. I plugged it in on 1 Nov and it has been running 24/7 since that date (not always 'on', but always connected). I have not had to do a refresh or anything else.

I suggest you contact the Winegard folks (They're in Burlington).
