I'm in the same boat... did not appreciate my photo's being moved from Picasa to Google ... and what really is bad is that all the text is gone. It's just photo's with no explanation to them of what they are. I did send some feedback to them on that. I'm hoping that they are able to do something about that in the next year before they shut picasa albums down.
My blog is linked to my picasa albums.... 10 years of links. I am almost afraid to go look to see if the links still work. they might for now but won't later when picasa is truly "over"??
So I'm looking for something that is truly private. I've got a flickr acct but never used that as much as picasa. That's controlled by Yahoo.
Agree about the text, what used to show up below every pic on Picasaweb should still show up on any other photo hosting site, at least for how I want to use it. With Google Photos I found that if I click on a pic, then click on "Info" at the top right the text belonging to the pic does show up ... but who other than me is going to bother, especially those who don't use GP themselves and aren't familiar with it? :S
Secondly, with Picasweb I don't have to be logged in at all, nor does anyone else, to simply view any of my pics in albums set up for public viewing ... with Google Photos that doesn't seem to be possible as I can only view pics if I'm logged in. I have two Google accounts and I've set up my Macbook Pro to automatically open my primary Gmail account as soon as Safari opens ... great, but if I then go to Google Photos it gives me an old set of photo albums which are attached to that account. To get to my current set I have to quit that first account and manually open my secondary account which my current set of photo albums are attached to. It's a real PITA. :M
I haven't tried it yet but I notice that rv.net can now load a photo directly from my computer using
this link, with the pic itself being hosted on IMGUR. That's great for quickly inserting a pic into a forum discussion but I still want my pics sitting on a photo hosting site arranged in albums, some of which will be public and some private. Since it's obviously good enough for rv.net I'll have to give IMGUR another look to see if it may be the answer.
FWIW, I took a look at Photobucket and along with having previously read negative comments about it I don't think it will work for my simple needs.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond. :)
