IMHO, forums like this one should carry their own weight and host or cache images like most other large forums.
When I've mentioned this in the past, it's "flame city" but situations like the Photobucket fiasco has the possibility of rendering a large portion of this forum as useless, which could actually have a cascading failure of forums, of sorts.
