Photo/Document Scanners

As we prepare to go part-time (maybe full time later) in our TT, we are wanting to transfer a bunch of old photos to the computer. We would also like to copy a lot of magazine articles concerning travel destinations, etc. to the computer rather than carrying a bunch of magazines. I am looking to buy a good scanner that will do both jobs. Please let me know of models that you have used and are happy with or if you are not happy with one, please let me know about that as well. Thanks in advance.
  • DW just bought herself one of these Neat Scanners and is happier than a pig in slop. She got it at Bed Bath & Beyond where they had them on sale for $150, and a 20% off coupon brought the price down to $120. Days later, she is still telling me how (pardon the pun) NEAT it is. It scans up to 8.5"x30". It is powered by the USB port, so no power cord needed. It is about 10" wide, and about 1.5" deep and tall.

  • I copied all of my old photos by buying a copy stand and taking pictures of them. easy to slide the pix in and zoom to fit. much quicker than operating a scanner.

    what ever brand/model you get
a good thing to have is software that will create PDF files from scans
this way you scan a number of magazine pages (article) and create (1) PDF file

if you scan pages as photo's, you will have ONE photo for each page of the article, you will then to organize by naming each one in sucession and storing all photo/pages for each article in a Named folder and view them with 'picture' viewing software

so scan single photos as pictures
    and scan documents/pages as PDF

    Hi there
It is a wise choice to own a powerful [link removed] document scanner which also supports to scan pdf document.I want to know that if there is any free document scanner. My previous scanner is expensive for me.Thanks a lot.

  • There currently is a Brother all in one right now on sale at Costco (8810)that does duplex scanning in addition to everything else. For $350 it is a good deal for the features. With this you can scan the articles easily without stopping to scan each side. As to photos, no matter what you get you are going to need to put each one on the flatbed and scan. A good scanner will include software that will save to a variety of file types including PDF. Your old photos will be saved as individual jpgs. We currently have an older model of the Brother and are considering this newer model just because of the duplexing features for scan and print. Quality is good. This is not a portable unit. It requires some space and is not easily moved around but it sounds like you want this for home and not the TT.
  • I have a HP Photosmart that I've used to scan in old prictures DW had in folders. It also does xeroxing and prints documents/photo's.

  • I use a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 sheet feeder scanner. It is very small, portable and will run off the AC adapter or you can power it from your laptop. I run a small consulting company on the side and it handles everything I can throw at it. Excellent colour and if you have a decent printer you will not be able to tell the difference between the original and scanned photos. One feature I really like is it will take a Pdf. document and turn it into a Word document. Highly recommend it.
