Please, please, need help with that junk "Photobucket"

Gents,
As did many of you, I used Photobucket for hosting third party photos for quite a few years. But, they've changed their policies and, we are no longer able to use them for hosting photos unless you PAY THEM. Well, that's fine but, I'm not gonna pay them. So, I've been desperately trying to remove my photos from photobucket and place them back into a file on my computer. If, IF I ever can do that, I will find another site to host third party photos for linking on to forums.

But, Photobucket says in their site: "Yes, your photos are all safe". But, they won't let me extract them from their site to my computer. I have tried every which way to click on every tab, follow any and all instructions and more, but, the ads keep poping up and blocking what I'm trying to do. Once I finally get the ads gone, off the screen, It (their site) still won't let me do it.

The simply "cut or, copy and paste" thing simply won't work. I need help here. I'd really like to remove all the photos from there and put them back onto my computer for my discretion as to where they're further displayed. Have any of you worked with PHotobucket since they've changed their policies? Are or, were you able to extract your photos from their site?

If so, how EXACTLY, DID YOU DO IT? What clicks did you use? Where did you put them? I'm usually fairly computer literate and can figure most things out but, I'm at a loss here and so is the wife. Help!

  • seems you have to click on the image from your library. Then right click on the single photo and select the "Save Image As".

Then path to a folder to save it to.

I don't think there is a 'bulk' way to download, so you will have to do them one at a time... But, you can then click the right arrow to advance to the next photo, right click, save as, repeat.

I'm pretty much done with them too, but I still have my original copies of the photos I uploaded...

I only uploaded them so I can post them... Not for a storage place.

    Anyway, good luck with it!

What are you using to replace Photobucket?
I use this site for RV.net. But what to use for other sites?
  • I never loaded originals to Photobucket. I've always kept originals on my laptop computer and back-up on an external hard drive. I only uploaded to photobucket after I resized the originals to 640x480 pixels or smaller for use on RV.net. So when I got blocked from using photobucket 3rd party, I just started deleting all my photos one at a time, folder by folder until they were gone. I then closed out my photobucket account, and also made sure they knew why I was closing. Never heard a word from them.

I since have started using IMGUR.com. I understand from some folks they block 3rd party also, but so far, this has not happened to me. I'll use them until something happens. I also opened a Flicker account, but have not loaded any photos there yet.

Still, all my originals are safe, in MY control, and not dependent on any other web site or anywhere else to store them.

I work in Information Technology and everything is moving to the "Cloud". Sorry, I don't want dependency on someone else's technology for my personal photos.

As stated above, about all you can do to save the photos from Photobucket, is to resave them one at a time.
  • I've downloaded all my photos from Photobucket and it wasn't that big of a deal. On the Library page, lower right corner, there should be a menu there that includes "Download Album". Click on that and download your albums. That's what I did.
  • Goto 'my bucket' ,,'your bucket'
Pick a folder and choose download

Then walk away and leave it alone

Photo bucket will take it's sweet time putting all those pictures into one zipped aka compressed file, which will display a message ready for download
Down load that file then move on to the next folder and repeat
If you have only the bucket and a whole lot of pictures
It could be an hour maybe more, before it is zipped and ready to download

You probably did nothing wrong, just did not wait until you got the ready to download msg, i made the same mistake, expecting an instant start to the download process, took me several trys to figure it out

When I started to use computers I had to punch cards and deliver them to the computer services center and put myself at their mercy for results. A few years later I had a dump terminal and still was at the mercy of computer services.

Then the PC came along and I was liberated. I had control of my computer life, no longer had a computer tech wanting to know why I wanted to do something and sometimes saying no.

The cloud seems like a step backward in control to the 60's and 70's. It may be useful for companies to avoid supporting computing but I will not surrender to it. I will use it when it helps me but it will never have my original data or photos.

I downloaded my albums as described above.
So far I have been using: https://photos.google.com for 3rd party hosting.
There may be something out there better but it has been working okay.

  • Hey Gang
I certainly want to thank all of you for taking the time to help me on this thing. It, without a doubt, is very much appreciated. The wife and I are somewhat computer literate but, this Photobucket thing is really nothing but a pain in the A$$. As stated before, I've used it for quite a while and, while Photobucket really has not been a smooth running site, EVER, I was still able to use them for third party hosting. I do have most of the photos on there in some files, buried in my computer so, in worst case scenario, I walk away from it and I'll just go dig up all of them and use another host site.

But, I haven't given up yet. I have tried the bulk download but, nothing happens. I sit and sit and sit and, nothing. So, I'll try other methods. Thanks very much again.
