Most of the non roof-mounted automatic sat finders do a decent job of obtaining a Directv sat signal, none can get HD content from Directv if that's is what you require. There is an automated roof mounted system and HD sat dishes that can be mounted on a tripod to gain Directv HD access.
We often camp among the ponderosa pine trees out here in the mountain west and sometimes need a 100' plus of coax to obtain as signal so we need a tripod mounted sat dish. Purchased the same dish we have installed at home on Ebay and mounted it on the same homemade stand we used for the round 18" Directv SD Dish we used for years.
Thought it would be more difficult to aim, but we do the same thing we did to get a signal with the old SD sat dish and just point to sat 101. As long as the dish is set up according to receiver indicated numbers, the rest of the satellites come right in.
With clear shot to the south we can be up and running in under 10 minutes, every channel just like at home. Even if I purchase a rig with roof-mounted sat I will always carry the portable for camping where exposure to the southern sky is limited.
