It is an issue when you are traveling down the road and the darn things wants to take you in a way off route. The Rand has a feature that is supposed to favor the route based on RV or Car usage. Preplanning the route and checking it is important if you don't want to be heading off some goofy route. The Rand took me about 2 miles extra yesterday on a 5 mile trip. Wasn't familiar with the area so I followed it.

I too do a lot of planning with streets and trips and then export them to my Garmin. Some times I have to set up an Avoid area to force Streets and trips to comply to my route preference.

Just checked and looks like S & T and the RM GPS unit will comm using the .GPX format. Whoop-dee-doo Ha!.

We'll see how ell it works. If the rubber even meets the road.

The free mapping software Tyre will download a planned route to Garmin or Tom Tom - it will depend on the route or itinerary file format that Rand McN uses if any of the PC mapping software route files will be compatible with it. Garmin and Tom Tom each use their own format and Tyre can save files to both of these.

The Garmin RV GPS would certainly be able to import routes from Tyre or Mapsource.

I'm looking to see if the RM GPS can import files.

If it can handle mapsource files, I'll get that program.

This is good news. Have you ever found that the route shown in the GPS converted differently than what you created in Streets and Trips?

We currently use Garmin's Map Source program to do this. Are there other GPSs that give you the ability to map the program on your computer and download it into the GPS?
