- BumpyroadExplorerif all you want to do is see the ball and hitch, that camera is way too expensive for just doing that.
bumpy - wa8yxmExplorer IIIThe answer depends on where the camera (And license plate) is mounted.
However you may be able to mount the camera in a place other than the license plate.
The issue with sun washout.. Again that can be dealt with by "hooding" the camera, if the sun is at an angle to shine UNDER the hood, the trailer will block it.
The issue of it only working when in reverse... You can take care of that too, there is a wire that goes to the backup light circuit, route it to a toggle switch fed by a fused battery (or accessory) lead.
In short, there are ways around each and every issue. - Mongo68Explorer

Thanks do not really want to drill holes in tailgate so that is why I'm asking about license plate one. Can someone who has one post a screen shot? I'm sure they mount them up higher from factory for a reason, but they don't make a tailgate latch handle camera for my year.
They do make them for the newer years and Ive seen on the Ford forums its really easy to swap to a newer tailgate with the right handle. Ive thought about it... - TurnThePageExplorerOn my truck, the license plate mounted camera works GREAT for hitching up. I have a clear view of the ball, and can perfectly position it under the trailer tongue every time. Because it's not intended to be left on for long periods, I used to have it connected so that it only came on while backing up but now it turns on when I turn on the monitor in the cab. I just turn it on when I need a better view behind me. Mine was a cheap ebay product that's been in place for years now. I originally installed a rearview camera system to see behind the travel trailer. This license plate cam is tied in with that. Great investment.

- PawPaw_n_GramExplorerI've got a Sam's addon - worked great - so easy to hook up alone.
When I got my newest truck - I had a camera installed that shows up automatically in the rear view mirror. Even better.
Anyone want to buy a gently used one from Sam's Club? - cougar55ExplorerBought a backup camera at Sam's that mounts on rear plate. Had it for several years now and it works just fine, Makes hitching up much easier.
- BumpyroadExplorerall of my back up cameras were activated by putting in reverse.
bumpy - cmarqExplorerI had one and took it back, if the sun is on it you can't see anything.
