For those that have a landline, it's probably best.
Having said that, if there's a snow or ice storm, landlines can go down too. There's no perfect solution. We use the setup we do because we don't have a landline anymore.
We watch the weather "back home" when we're traveling and call into the system to check the temp regularly when it concerns us.
