We have no landline anymore, so this is the solution we use. Cheap cell service with PagePlusCellular is $10 for 120 days.
Yep, there's no perfect solution. We call into our system regularly when the weather dictates concern. At least we'd know there was a problem if the system didn't respond and we could call a neighbor to check things out.
