Remote temperature alert

I would like to know what RVers use to monitor their home's temperature while they are away. I would like to be able to remotely see my house temperature using the net. I would also like to be alerted via email when my house temperature falls below a preset temperature value such as 45 or 50 degrees F. I am looking for a device below $150. Thanks

  • Thanks jcpainter. Freeze alarm is a viable option. I'll see what other ideas are out there. Regards
  • Normally I just set the thermostat to 55, shut off the water, and leave. But last year my furnace packed up shortly after I returned -- control board had to be replaced. It could have been a problem if that had happened while I was gone.

So this year I'm putting in a temperature alert. I decided on the simplest, rather than a web-based one. Nothing to set or adjust. It will call me if the temp drops to 45. Then I can get my neighbor to go in, and call the HVAC folks.

I'd rather not rely on the functioning of my broadband/router to get this done.
  • We use Freeze Alarm. It doesn't email or text, but it calls you if the power goes off or if the temp goes below a certain preset. You can also call into it to get the temp if you're worried.

Natively it uses a land line to call you, but it also will work (with the addition of a cellular gateway box) with any cell phone that has bluetooth. We have no landline anymore, so this is the solution we use. Cheap cell service with PagePlusCellular is $10 for 120 days.
