replace factory dvd/stereo in trailer

Has anyone replaced the factory DVD/stereo in their trailer? I am not impressed with the unit I have. (off brand, cant remember the make)It won't read my USB for music, there is a 3 second delay every time I try to change the volume, station or speakers and the sound is terrible(I know the speakers are to blame here.) I am thinking about replacing the unit but am not sure what the cut out in the cabinet is like. Will a double din automotive unit fit or will I have to make a custom cover plate? The cover for this unit is much larger than an automotive unit. I have never had one of these out so am unsure of the actual size. Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement unit? I also would like to input my TV sound to it so I can play TV sound out the speakers. Not sure if the factory unit has audio in RCA or not. The trailer is in storage so my access to it is limited to weekend trips. Thanks in advance!
  • It is probably just a standard unit that can be purchased anywhere. Just go to a audio store, pick out what you want and have them install it.
  • Pull it then get whichever brand/model you like.

Course depending on opening you might have to make it larger or get cover plate to install.

Audio shops have LOTS of choices and installation options.

I like Clarion and JVC brands

I put a JVC in my last truck. I liked that unit. I put a Jensen in my current truck. It's OK. Both are double din DVD/ Stereo. Either one as well as many others would work. I was asking more about the fit in the cabinet face. I should have searched the internet first. I just found a bunch of them. They are referred as "wall mount" rv stereos. they look to be the same size as the cover plate on the stock one.
So... has anyone replaced theirs with a recommended unit that is "wall mount". I am not looking to have anyone install it for me. I just want to find a good unit on the internet and install it myself. Thanks!
  • Have never replaced one, but we do have a problem with the auto stero installed in the dash on our Class A, and it might be something to consider in a replacement. Our problem is the viewing angle on the display. Ours in only readable from above the unit, as it was designed to mount low on the dash of a car or truck, and cannot be read on the tilted dashboard from our normal driving position. In our case a solution would be to shim it enough to change the angle, but that is a when-I-don't-have anything -else-to-do project. Depending on where yours is mounted on a wall, it might be something to consider.
