More important to check actual signal level. The bar signal strength can be misleading.
How do you check the actual signal level?
If Apple you will have to Google it. Android phones will have some slight variations. Typically goto Settings_ About device (bottom of menu)_ Status. You should be looking at a numerical number. This is your actual signal level. With phone on this screen, turn on the booster. This will tell you how well its working. The actual signal level will allow you to test different ground planes and antenna location for best results from the booster. On the two vehicles I use the booster I found the middle of the hood to be best. In your house you may find one side of the house better than the other. Usually, higher is better.
When you do find the signal strength display (on my Droid it is in Settings/Phone Settings/Status) it is in negative decibels which means that the signal strength gets greater as the numbers get SMALLER!
