Now I am confused. The description says: Wired modem only, Requires CABLE Internet Service, if not sure your provider is CABLE call them to confirm. Note: does NOT include WIFI Router or VOIP Telephone adapter

I believe I'm going to get the Arris SB6141 mentioned by Chuck D. While I didn't find it as cheap as he did, I have found it for around $60. It is highly recommended by many reviewers.

I figure the DOCSIS 3.0 has to do with the speed that the modem will download data, in a nutshell. There's stuff about channels and bands and stuff like that but that seems to be the meat of it. My internet speeds are only around 10 mbps so I don't need as much speed as the DOCSIS 3.0 allows, which I believe is around 100 mbps.

So basically what you'll have when you're finished is, for example, your old phone/internet modem from TWC that will only be used for the phone, an Arris SB6141 modem to access the internet, and a router(wireless if you want a Wifi network) if you have more than one device you wish to connect to the internet.

I did what you want to do. I had the time warner modem/router combo. I bought the ARRIS SB6183 modem and Asus Ac66U router. All you need to do is to buy a cable splitter and a short cable, and time warner has which recommended splitter one to get on their page.

Unplug the cable going to their modem, put the splitter on and one will go back to their modem and one to your new modem. You will end up keeping their modem but there will not be a charge for it, basically for the phone. From your modem then to the router. They will do a bridge on their end after you call them to basically bypass their modem and you will be in business.

I have the SB6141. I got a factory refurb on woot.com for $35 (including shipping). TWC was super helpful when I had to call to get it registered (they need the MAC address from the modem). Payback is just a few months.

Or you can wait a while for them to become Spectrum. My understanding is that Charter does not charge for modems and that may the model moving forward with Spectrum. Trouble is that we don't know how long that will take.

That's correct. My dad has home phone and I bought him the above referenced Arris SB6141, which does not support the phone. They said no big deal, just leave it plugged in at no charge. :R

Cable box is supplied by teeing into jack at wall and box. This jack is tied into all of the other jacks in the house. Modem is other side of house in office.

I know I need Dos3. The cable comes as a single wire into the house, splits into the cable wiring in each room. That tells me that the land line coming in handles cable, wifi and land line.The current Modem plugs into the house cable wiring. I do have a land line. The wall mounted plug for the phone also ties into the back of the Modem. Time Warner has a list of approved Modems and I assume that would mean that they would work on their system. Some of the Modems on that list say "WiFi Modem" and some say "Internet Modem only". That makes we wonder if it would be what I call "all in one". As I said, I can not tell if the recommended ones are what I need for all three service but again, the description say "internet" or "wifi. I have looked at pictures of the back of 3 of the recommendations and none of them have a phone jack port but the one I have from Time Warner does.

The cable splits somewhere - one side goes to your TV (cable box probably) and the other side goes to your internet modem. Whether your modem provides wifi or not has nothing to do with cable TV.

I turn off the wifi on my modem and move my wifi router from the house to the RV when I'm travelling. That way, all my devices connect to exactly the same router wherever we are.

Basically almost any router will work. We have the Buffalo Air Station and it works well.

However since you also have phone through them you are really limited with any modem choices. I'm assuming you're talking landline and not VoIP of course.
