RV 760 LMT route guidance

I will use BaseCamp to plan my routes. It is a free download from Garmin. You can plan your routes in advance on your computer. If you don't like the route you can use via waypoints to redirect your GPS. Once I have a route planned in BaseCamp I make sure my GPS distance to destination matches BaseCamp when set to navigate.
BaseCamp can be used to transfer waypoints & routes to your Garmin device. You certainly don't want to rely 100% on your GPS. It has sent me on a few crazy tours.

Which is not always convenient or possible on city streets. I've found myself having to "-" the map size to see where the darn thing is taking me. I don't remember my old 660 doing this.

This isn't the worst of it. In North Platte NE I was set as "RV" and looking for the big train yard. It routed me through residential neighborhoods, lots of turns, and low-hanging trees - a nightmare. It would have been so much easier if the dang thing had routed me around all that.

Another issue we discovered recently is that the RV routing may not always be better for an RV than the auto routing. On a recent trip to a campground in PA, the GPS RV routing took us from the PA Turnpike exit over a number of miles of hilly, curvy, very narrow roads to get to the campground (after dark of course). The next day we found that the auto routing provided much less miles of narrow, curvy, hilly roads between the same two points. We have since used the auto routing option.

I don't see avoid left turns, but I see avoid Uturns. I could change that.

It will also try to route you around traffic sometimes on weird side streets.just last week it tried several times to get me off I5 thru Seattle when traffic was congested mid day. Some times you just have to ignore what is telling you

I've owned a couple of Garmin GPS's and they seem to quite frequently send me to the next street past where I should turn. Not sure why but I just ignore it. Certainly very frustrating. On a trip earlier this year I was directed off an interstate for a mile or so only to be turned around back to the interstate I was already on. 90% of the time it seems to work properly. I didn't know you could set it to avoid left turns. I have to check mine.

In settings, is avoid left turns selected? Might just be the RV GPS algorithm is set to avoid left turns.

Perhaps, but it has no problem routing me to many locations on the left.
