RV 760LMT Users Only

Just got the replacement for my Dezl 760 - the RV 660. Yes, while screen size is smaller, it still seems big enough, so it is not the big downgrade I feared. Have not played with it enough to give it a full test yet, but did note that the latest update did claim to include propane restrictions - which were very lacking in the older 760!

I do agree that getting the RV760 to follow a custom route can be rather difficult, and it shouldn't be so. It would be nice if it followed the custom route without rethinking it unless there's an obstacle such as low clearance etc.

.. "Motogoloco.com" does save .. and I have downloaded my directions into my 2597 ... and it does work...

I am New at it.. did do it twice..

I am not bashing the unit. Just pointing out as others have that if you think you can easily build and put in custom routes you will likely be disappointed.

I generally don't try to guide the GPS however if I really want to trick the GPS into another route. I will set a few destinations along my preferred route. The GPS will guide me to those destinations and ultimately take my preferred

That's pretty important. Recently I was plotting a course from Texas to Louisiana and LA 8 would give me a straight shot to Alexandria.

The RV760 wouldn't do it, wanting to go in odd directions. I tried it in Basecamp with the same result. I tried to make it go but no go.

A check of Google Earth Street View showed the problem; the bridge over the Sabine River is about six inches lower than my air-conditioners are tall. Says so right there on the clearance signs at the bridge.

If I'd arrived at the bridge I would've had to back up on a two-lane road a very uncomfortable distance to where I could turn around.

I do like to tell the GPS where to go since DW is navigationally-disabled and I mostly use it for alerts of turns etc but it's good to have its second opinion. An ordinary car GPS or phone app would've led me straight to the bridge.

The RV Type GPS are more set in their ways. They want to ensure there are no obstacles or clearance issues along the route. With that in mind they guide you on a more dedicated route that has been verified to be trouble free for RV travel.
Of course none of this is foolproof. No GPS is 100% accurate however the RV models attempt to keep you on verified RV safe routes at all times.
If the GPS does not consider the route RV verified it will avoid that route if possible

Testing mine in CAR mode or RV mode netted the same results. My point was at $350 I think it should be much better. I can get an $85 GPS to blindly lead to a destination.
The unit is advertised to be able to put in custom routes but in reality without a lot of work it is not possible.

Sounds like the RV 760 is not for you.

I'm not trying to guide the GPS.
If the need to set your own course is your priority I agree the RV 760 is not for you.

but biggest part of the 760 price is its database of RV stuff...
and LOW production numbers.

not excusing Garmin... all GPS could do much better..
I have started using a program to map out and download to my Garmin 2597.. "Motogoloco.com"
but for it to route the way I want... learning and time is needed.

my advice is to sell you RV760. someone will want it.


but I still keep asking santa for one. as I need a backup camera.. for the trailer.
