Samsung Galaxy 4 Assistance

The cellular works good.

It was originally tied to AT&T but now is in Mexico with a TelCel service provider.

The APPS is loaded to the gills with AT&T garbage that I sure wish I could wipe off the face of the map.

I have downloaded the Samsung Operator's manual - all two hundred and some odd pages of it.

Maybe I am looking in the wrong place but I sure don't and won't have any need for forty-some-odd APPS that clutter things to distraction.

Where in the manual do I look? The object is to tap APPS then find ONLY what APPS I use. not a whirlwind of useless symbols.

Thanks So Much

    Hi Mex,

    I happen to have a galaxy S4.

    Go to settings

    tap more

    tap application manager

select the item you wish to uninstall

    tap uninstall

repeat with the next item you wish to remove.

I would add after "tap application manager", scroll over to "All Apps". This can vary on version of Android and Touchwiz.

Disabled apps will no longer be in the App Drawer. Disabled apps will no longer consume data. It sounds like you have limited Cell Data at times through the day? Turn off Mobile Data when cell connectivity is limited. You can still call and text. This should extend battery life.

For advanced battery saving check "Accounts". See what is connecting that probably should not. Also check "Battery" usage. This will tell you what is consuming power. You might have an app that gets hung up. This would consume power for no reason. The quick resolution is turning off Mobile Data.

When you swipe down from top to bottom, those quick access toggles can be rearranged.
  • I am more then pleased with the Otterbox Defender case for the smartphones I have. They do a GREAT job of protecting my phone from drops and falling on it etc and also from scratches on the screen.

If you decide to buy a wireless charging receiver (I just bought one for my S3 for $4.99 on Ebay) for your S4 it will also allow the phone to charge while still in the case.
  • Disabled apps, do not use any power
To totally remove them, you need to Root the phone
A process that if done incorrectly turns your phone into a door stop
And yes I did root my S4
    I have Not uninstalled anything,
I have disabled aka frozen quite a few background apps
And changed permissions on some other ones
Rubber cases are available, bigger batteries, and tempered glass screen protectors
Don't know if you can get an "otter box" for the S4
They are highly regarded as the best case for protection
  • Like a passel of red-headed-stepchildren? They'll hide but continue to raid the cupboards? All's I'm trying to do is pare down the welfare system so the battery lasts longer so I can make phone calls without being padlocked to a transformer.

Maybe a larger capacity battery? Thicker? Easier to hang onto the phone. Right nowIt feels like I'm thumbing a credit card. And suggestions for a really good case (concrete resistant) would help.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'm copying this thread to disk and tonight I'll see if I can fumble my way through this...

Ok two things you can do.. one is go to settings, application manager, and DISABLE apps that you do not need.. (They are still there but not eating clock cycles, they should also dissappear from your screens) If you find you diosabled something important.. You go to APPS manager and slide left till you get to disabled.. and enable it.

Next, you have apps on your home screen.. LONG PRESS and a trash can appears.. Move to trash and they vanish. They are still on the phone, and may still be eating clock cycles but they are not on the screen.

Now go to the APPS screen.. find the MENU icon, and one of the options is HIDE APPS.

Tick off all the apps you no longer wish to see.. Click on DONE and poof they vanish as well. again, still chewing up clock cycles but you dont' see 'em.

And againm, if you decide you need one.. Same path but choose "Show hidden aps". and Instantly you can check the one you want and restore it just that fast.
  • Samsung will not let you "uninstall" most of those apps period. They can be disabled using the same process Settings > Application Manager > App Name > Disable. This makes it disappear, but it's not gone.

You can also re arrange the app icons and add pages to the app folder that have only the apps you want on them. This is done by pressing and holding on each icon till it can be dragged, then drag it to the page you want it on.

Easy Peasey when you figure it out...
