Samsung, so you think you are safe?

First of all how come none of this important info never hits the TV news? They tell us all about Kardashians aarss but never report problems in the tech realm.

""The flaws in Samsung Smart TVs, which have now been patched, enabled hackers to remotely turn on the TVs' built-in cameras without leaving any trace of it on the screen.

While you're watching TV, a hacker anywhere around the world could have been watching you. Hackers also could have easily rerouted an unsuspecting user to a malicious website to steal bank account information.

Samsung also recommends that customers use encrypted wireless access points.

The iSEC crew said they remain skeptical that the technology is perfectly secure, even after Samsung patched the bugs.

And when all else fails, users can always put tape over their cameras.""

:S

Article goes into the real depth of this problem and others, good read.

  • The problem is that 99% of 'tech' stories are reported by people who have zero technical ability or understanding and they go after sensationalism rather than real true to life facts discussed with a sensible understanding of what is likely to happen.

Just because someone "could" does not mean that someone "will".

I used to work in the Defense Industry and when Computers and CRT displays came along. some bright spark in a multi billion dollar government test facility determined that Russian Spys could use sophisticated listening and scanning devices to read the text displayed on the screen of the CRT from outside of the building - for a while it caused major disruption as they discussed using aluminum foil etc to block the signals. Eventually common sense prevailed!
